Accepting applications for Editor position Busy independent weekly newspaper in Rocky Mountain House, Alberta, requires an editor. The Mountaineer newspaper publishes every Tuesday. The position involves editing content, reporting, photography, working in collaboration with a team of three reporters, managing photo tech person, planning content, web site planning, newsroom budgeting and more. The editor will be responsible for content of several annual special sections and magazines. Some evening and weekend hours will be necessary. The editor is expected to develop comprehensive knowledge of community and its history. He or she must have strong communication and public relation skills. Rocky Mountain House is located near the foothills of the Rocky Mountains. The area has a very diverse demography, economy and history. The market area is estimated at over 12,000 and there are many active community groups to cover. The newspaper has been an important contact point in this community and the editor is expected to develop comprehensive knowledge of the community and its history. He or she must have strong communication skills and deal with the public in a tactful and friendly manner. An active and growing community has lead to a very busy newsroom. Minimum five years of applicable experience is required for this permanent full-time position. Salary will be commensurate with experience. Must have a reliable vehicle (vehicle allowance and mileage is paid). Group benefits plan. Digital camera will be supplied. Knowledge of Indesign and Photoshop would be an asset.
